This week, a friend of mine told me that he was taking blog ideas from competitor sites, then editing them to make his version better.
Ok I get it. It’s important to keep an eye out on the competition. And you want to post a blog each week because “it’s good for SEO”. But how effective is an article that’s pretty much identical to 20 others? Will anyone even read it?
With a reported two million pieces of content published each day, you’re certainly not giving your blog a fighting chance to trigger engagement if all you’re doing is what everyone else is doing.
5 ways to bring ZEST into your next blog.
- Trust yourself
You know your customers – their journey, challenges, aspirations. Drive your own communication with them. You don’t need to follow someone else’s path. - Show your personality
Be yourself and speak in your own voice. People want to engage with you. Not a bunch of information they can easily pull out from hundreds of sites. - Be bold
Say what you think. It’s your blog after all. What’s your take on it? - Have fun
When you’re being authentic, your passion will shine through. It’s your WHY you’re in business. And that’s compelling. - Help more people
Re frame your relationship with your blog. Don’t look at it as a task you enjoy as much as you love housework. Look at it as an opportunity to help more people become more successful and improve their lives.
If I may quote from Marie Kondo (of Netflix’s ‘Tidying Up with Marie Kondo’ fame), “[Does your blog post] spark joy? Is it something that you want to have as part of your life moving forward?”
NO? Then ditch it! Write something that gives you joy.
